Fitting Woes Guest Post

Today I bring you a guest post I did for the gorgeous Georgina. She blogs about fitting undergarments, which really should be visited before trying to fit a pattern. Essential, really.

Go over to her blog and read about my fitting woes with McCalls 6433 and then browse through her reviews. She knows what she’s talking about.

Hi Leila I know it’s a bit after the event, but I just read your guest blog about your fitting woes. I’m surprised you had so much trouble with the pattern. Being a Plamer/Pletsch pattern it has all the fitting instructions in the guide sheet. DId you do a tissue-fitting first? That would have shown that you needed the broad back alteration and would have saved you having to re-do the full-bust adjustment. (I’m a Palmer/Pletsch teacher!) You could have checked the sleeve for a full arm alteration too before cutting out the fabric! I haven’t found any pics of the finished dress yet – gorgeous fabric. Where did you get it?

Thanks for your comment Mandy. I did do a tissue-fitting first but being new to fitting I’m sure I missed the signs of ill-fit. Also, the fabric I chose for the muslins and the actual fabric were very different in drape- again, another beginner mistake. I learned so much from those errors I made on this dress. I’d love to try the pattern again. I’m sure I would have way fewer issues. thanks again for saying something. I really appreciate it.
