Altering the back

Can you see the difference between the pattern lines and my back piece? If Burda makes you angry and/or your eyes start to cross then just believe me. There’s quite a difference. I’m starting with nearly the smallest upper back size that comes on the sheet.

Even after this alteration, I still needed to pinch out more of the rest of the back, not just for the back of the neck.

Can you tell how surprised I am?

I’ll show you pics of the finished dress next week but in the meantime I want to ask you a question:

How long would you/do you spend altering a garment before you throw it in the trash and walk away?

With this dress, and only a few others, I get so obsessed with fitting it that I can’t let go. Others, I’m fine throwing out if they don’t look promising. 🙂

I’ve thrown a few mockups away, but generally, I try to tweak something until it’s right. Sometimes, this means up to 3 versions of the mockup just to get the pattern corrected as much I want.

I’ve only sewn with a few Burda patterns in the past – I hated them so much (the fit is strange) I never even look at that brand anymore.
