Twitter can be such a magical place. One minute you’re talking about colors you like to buy, what “season” you are color-wise and then bam!, you get an email with a personalized color chart from Gillian.
Isn’t that cool!? I’d say she’s got me pegged. What do you think? Is there a color she and I missed in this? A color I wear all the time?
What am I doing with this?
It’s helping me be realistic about fabric purchases. I often look and buy fabric I don’t end up using because it’s just not something I’d wear. Sometimes I try to go out of my color comfort zone but it’s a balance.
I’ve been window shoe shopping lately, trying to find some shoes that will work with the colors I have in my wardrobe. I’m trying to get out of my brown and black shoe thing. Or my “I need all the red shoes” thing.
Here are some shoes I’m looking at buying. Not all of them, though I did have quite the shoe collection before settling down with kids. I got rid of all of them. I don’t like holding on to stuff for long. Plus, there are always more shoes.
I’m using the color palette Gillian made for me to help narrow down the color choices. I’m also trying to imagine what clothes I’d wear these shoes with… though I’m not so good at that. I’m better at just buying all the shoes. If I don’t have an outfit for the shoes, I can always sew an outfit.
I know yellow isn’t even in my palette that Gillian created for me but I’m drawn to these colors right now, for Spring and Summer, more than other colors.
I’m loving this last wedge- Yes! I’m a wedge girl!- but with the city sketched in the side of the wedge. Squee!! I love them.
What’s your favorite kind of shoe? Are you all shoe’d up for Spring? Any new shoes your eyeing?
I’m shoe’d up for Autumn here. I hate cold weather but I do love boots – lotsa boots! Long boots, heeled boots, flat boots, ankle boots. Tragic really.
I love the idea of a colour chart. I tend to stick to blue, boring but I love it!
I love boots, too. Love them all.
Those last ones, definitely. Must get those. And I’d say pull the trigger on a yellow pair — I think yellow looks great with every single one of the colors in the top row of your palette. I’m drawn to the print but the solid ones with the poofy thing on top would probably coordinate with more. And I totally have that “must get all the red shoes” thing too!! Step away from the red shoes…
Today I spent some time looking at shoes in stores. I ended up buying a flat sandal that looks nothing at all like the shoes of my dreams but isn’t that life.
Total palete envy!! I also want every pair of these shoes!
Can you believe that some of these shoes are already sold out? And the DSW in town doesn’t carry them. ha!
So wrong!!
Yay! i’m so glad you like you palette! Can you figure out which garments I sampled each colour from? Green is your bra, teal is a striped RTW shirt, i think… Purple is your Hourglassy dress…hot pink is obviously your pavlova! My vote is for the yellow shoes – I can’t wear yellow myself, but I have a mustard yellow purse that I love because it coordinates with EVERYTHING! Also, I think some black and white striped shoes would be awesome with your wardrobe…
ooh, mustard yellow purse. that sounds perfect! I really need that last pair. They would go with my floral pavlova knit skirt. 😉 Thanks again for doing my palette. It’s so fun.
Yellow is so versatile. It surprises me that so many say they can’t wear yellow — I think it’s so easy to just wear it as a shoe color for a pop of fun!! Also, I owned a pair of blue and white shoes a lot like the ones pictured, and I wore them into the ground. I say get them all! 😉
I’m having so much fun with yellow. I tried on the blue and white shoes today at DSW and they kept slipping off my heel when I walked. They didn’t have a size down but I’m still loving the idea of a striped shoe.
Love the espandrille in navy and beige….must have! it matches with everything, jeans, skirts, capris, etc….
That’s what they’re called. 🙂 thank you. I knew there was a name for it but I wasn’t going to remember.
Yellow and orange are almost neutrals when it comes to accessories. I’ve been looking for an orange pair of heels for years. I always wear a topaz ring that changes from yellow to orange to brown depending on the light, and I’m always amazed how well it goes with everything!
I love all the shoes you found! I think the yellow ones would be great – especially with your navy dress (I remember you accessorizing with some yellow when you wore that.)
Just be careful that you don’t get too many “patent” or shiny shoes. I’ve found that those are the hardest for me to find outfits for because they want to be just a little too dressy for most things. I have an amazing shiny black and bright yellow pair of shoes, but I can’t wear them with much because they are so “look at me!” and draw the eye (I have to wear neutral clothes when going for the crazy shoes). If you have lots of color in your clothing, it’s a little harder to wear the bright colored shoes without going over the top.
That was glitter not clutter…
Ok let’s try this off the iPhone… that correction was meant for my post below.
good point. Today I ended up getting a pair of yellow strappy sandals. Just flat. Actually the opposite of my thoughts from this site. They’ll work for now on account of being yellow. 🙂 so happy .
Have you seen the tutorials all over Pinterest that use mod podge and clutter or fabric on shoes? That would be an inexpensive way to add some color to your collection of brown and black shoes!
That is SUCH a good idea. I’m gonna have to play with glitter this weekend. thanks for thinking of that.
Wow, all these colours are really pretty! I don’t know if they are my colour pallette but do know I would buy stuff in them. And, definitely the last pair of shoes! Love those.
That last pair is gonna haunt me until I buy them. 🙂
