Leading up to last weekend, all I could think about was my Inara Training House Costume. This post, however, will show you pics from the bash itself and I’ll dive into more details of my Inara costume in another post. Don’t worry, there are costume pictures in here.
This Browncoats’ Bash comes just once a year and last year was my first time going. It was so fun to, once again, hang out all afternoon with fellow Firefly fans. The t.v. was playing Firefly the whole time…except for when we were watching fan films or Dr. Horrible.
We had a singalong, singing the Firefly songs like The Hero of Canton, some Marian Call songs. It was actually at a Marian Call house concert that I found out about the Bash last year. Later in the day there were simultaneous games of Shiny! (think Bingo) and a role playing game based on the show and movie. I played last year and this year for some reason just wasn’t feeling up for it.
It did get colder than I expected and my friend D and I went for a walk to warm up. All along there was a silent auction going on with some killer swag. The live auction caught everyone a little broke so people walked away with some amazing prints at some low prices. All proceeds were going to charity so it was all good and this year we hit a new record and are pretty excited to send that check to Middle Way House.
Remember the inspired River at Maidenhead costume I made last year? I finally got pictures of it! Woot.
Do you see Inara’s shuttle!! And inside of the main ship you can see the crew. Yup. The tiny crew in there. I did squee a mighty fine squee and I’ve seen a model before. It’s just too cute! You can sorta see them in my blurry photo. I’ll update this pic if someone else posts a better one.
These are the awesome watercolors I won in the silent auction:
There was several awesome moments throughout the day. For instance, when we all broke out into The Ballad of Serenity and the organizer’s 2.5 year old sang along. Another moment was when we had put on Dr. Horrible. D and I were hanging by the t.v. while everyone else was just milling about until a bunch of us started singing My Freeze Ray all together. It was awesome! Of course, it was also super cool when we had two guys and another woman and I doing the duet from My Eyes. Oh Jed Whedon, you make me tear up every time. Such a beautiful melody. So you can see how a live singalong of it would just do you in. And it did me in for sure.
I will now make promises that I will show you more pictures of my costume. You might have seen some pics on Instagram but I want to show you front/back/side of all the components of the costume. I’m really proud of it so of course I’d like to show it off.
Until then, stay Shiny!
Sounds like a brilliant (and exhausting!) day! I’m so glad everything worked out and you had fun!
Thanks Gillian. Yeah you see what I mean. There were some times of just chilling where I got to knit but most of it was talking and talking about Firefly! 🙂
That sounds so awesome! I love incorporating things I love into my wardrobe, but it tends to be quite subtle… Currently working on a scarf based on the wallpaper in 221B Baker street!
I can’t wait to see your scarf. I love Sherlock Holmes. Books first. 🙂 I might wear my Inara costume for Halloween.
It’s coming along pretty well, and it’s going to be so snuggly and thick and warm! I’m always a bit bummed out around Halloween, since we don’t celebrate it here and I LOVE dressing up.
That’s a bummer. We can have a twitter Halloween party!
Your costume looks so great – and it sounds like an excellent way to spend a day!
Thanks! It was so fun. Nice ice breaker, too. 🙂
This all looks so cool, loving all the Janye hats I see in these pics. The watercolors you bought are so well done. The one of Nathan is a really good likeness. Way to go anonymous artist. Can’t wait for more pics of your costume. Squeeeeee!
I might knit some Jayne hats for next year’s auction.
I am so happy you won the award! It was well deserved! And I am so excited to see the Inara costume all finished in all of it’s glory. What an accomplishment for you. I will look forward to the full post. You look lovely. And your day out looks like so much fun. I loved the Firefly series and am thinking I will need to go re-watch it this Fall. 🙂 ~Laurie
Thank you. It’s always a good time for a Firefly re-watch. 🙂
Congrats on a well-deserved win! Your costume came out so beautiful and pretty true to the original.
Thanks! I’m pretty pleased with how close I came.
Your costume came out wonderfully! Congratulations on the award!
Thanks Meris. I actually followed through with a lot of the details, which I’m usually too tired to tackle by the end. I guess leaving things to the last minute is really not the best way to costume. hahaha
I knew you’d win something – your costume is great! Definitely the most accurate. =)
Sounds like a fun day of geeking out! And I LOVE the Jayne t-shirt!
Thanks. I wish I lived near you so you could’ve helped me with my costume. And can you believe this is my first Firefly t-shirt? I also want the Serenity schematics tee. Saw it on Teefury but didn’t pounce on it for some reason.
Gosh, I wish transporters existed! It would be so much fun to help each other with the costumes and to be able to go to events like that with you!
I have a Blue Sun t-shirt but the sleeves bug me so I don’t wear it very much. I need to get one that fits better.
We should really try to meet up at a con or something. It would be so fun!
This looks like such an amazing day! The costumes, the gaming, the songs! I must admit to being Team Zoe like a boss- she is so freaking bad ass.
I looove Zoe. She is a badass! I kept hoping someone would’ve dressed up like her. It was such a fun day.
Sounds like a lot of fun! And from what I can see, you definitely nailed the costume. I’m looking forward to seeing more detail!
Thanks! I really need to get on detailed photos, don’t I? 🙂
You like all the same stuff I do! I so want to go to one of these conventions, but there’s a lot less of them in Europe 😦 Maybe some day my budget and schedule will coincide… You have like the most amazing costumes!
Cool! I love finding other people who share my love of Firefly! Costuming is so much fun! I hope things line up for you so you can go to an event or con soon. 🙂
Congratulations on winning most accurate costume! I can’t wait to see more pics.
Thank you Susan.
Wow, I’m green with envy. I wish I could have been there with you! I’m also a browncoat at heart and I’m sad because we don’t have that kind of events over here. Lucky you!
I’m so grateful this event happens every year. So grateful!
Yay! Congrats! It turned out so good! 🙂
Blah! That was my comment! 🙂 Sorry! Wrong email….
ANYWAY, it looks so great and I’m looking forward to the post of many many pictures. 😀
stupid many-commenter is stupid. 😛
BLAH, that was me up there. Sorry! Wrong email…
ANYWAY, YAY, it looks great! Can’t wait to see the many picture post. 😀
Omg, this is incredible, what a fun shindig and I can’t WAIT to see more deets about your costume! You’re reminding me I still have a certain t-shirt to do something about… 😉 (And yes I’m so behind, many sorries!!)
Thank you. It was fun and I owe the blog pics of my Inara costume. Let’s see who gets that something done first. 🙂
