Transitions: From Cake to Lolita

Since last year, around late November, I’ve been Cake Patterns‘ Northern Hemisphere Distributor. If you got a pattern from Cake’s Etsy shop or Pattern Review and live above the equator, I sent it to you.

Steph and I have become really good friends and she’d email me about different inner workings of Cake and I felt part of the team. I loved working with Cake. However, last week, I received an email from Amity from Lolita Patterns (you might remember my Sugar Plum dress) asking me to blog for her new pattern company. I couldn’t pass this up.

I was floored. And excited. And more excited.

That meant, however, that I had to make the transition away from my work with Cake. Why does the happy have to come with some sad? I loved working with Steph and Cake and I highly, highly (and forever will) recommend Cake Patterns.

What does my work for Lolita mean for this blog?

I will continue to blog about my makes (hello! I’ve got costumes I’m working on) and use patterns from across the sewing community and I will definitely be making more Cake! I’ll now also be blogging over at Lolita Patterns and later this month, I’ll be running the Sugar Plum Sew-Along. I love the Sugar Plum dress and I can’t wait to help you sew your own. I’ll be doing FBA and SBA posts, among other alterations, and helping out with fit and construction in the comments or, really, anywhere you can find me.

I hope you’ll pop on over to Lolita and check out my posts for them. I’m really excited to work with Amity and see more patterns come out. I’ll be on the inside so I’ll be sure to tease you as much as I can. You can also read Amity’s post about the changes going on with Lolita.

I’m probably forgetting something. Ask questions should you have any. I’m just over the moon right now.

I am beyond excited about a Sugar Plum sew-a-long! I first discovered this pattern through your blog and it was love at first sight. I can see many, many of these in my wardrobe, but alas I am but a novice sewer, so a sew-a-long is just what I need.

Big congrats on landing the Lolita gig.

Congrats on the new gig! I met the Lolita Patterns gals at the Pattern Review Weekend in San Francisco earlier this year. Lovely ladies! Have fun with the sewalong! I’m sure you’ll do a fantastic job!

This is a great thing! I’m excited. But – this may be a stupid question – but why can’t you work with both gals? I just got my pattern – may try and play along with the sew along. g
